I have decided to re-do how I sell these little guys online...They are very popular and usually people do not order just one...

SO I will be posting them as a "made to order" item, with photo references of what I have made in the past. This way you, as a purchaser, can order as many or as few as you like, and just let me know colours! This way you will save in shipping and I will save in posting online. Besides, they tend to be one of my most popular item with kids (and kids at heart) and it is hard to keep track which ones that I have in stock!

Y'all know that I am a little bit addicted to Craftster, the online craft circle in which I swap with fellow crafters around the world.
Each year they announce their "Best of" list and each year the winners get more and more awesome. (seriously...ONE year I will make it on their list....)

But then...as I was scrolling through the list (see HERE) I saw that on the bottom of the list under the category "Best Swap of the Year" was a swap that I took part in....and the picture they chose what the hoop that I made..!

So even though I didn't get voted "Best of" and can't really put the "Best of 2011" tag on my blog, the fact that they chose my image made me feel a little warm and fuzzy.

I found these socks on Boxing Day at H&M and was more then a little bummed that they didn't come in adult sizes...but decided that the next best thing was to get them to make monkeys out of. They were a little more then I usually like to spend but decided that I couldn't really pass them up.

Yup...Octopus's are back. I hadn't made them in a while...for a couple reasons. I hadn't purchased knee socks...and they aren't as much fun to make as monkeys. They take a lot longer...and there are just SO many legs. Don't get me wrong....I love the end product, and they are very popular...but I needed a break from them.

But now I got a bajillion socks for Christmas and a lot of them are knee socks....and so...let the octopus's return...

My Dad asked for a monkey for Christmas and I was only too happy to oblige. Since my father has a 'stashe, I knew this monkey needed one too. (...the ACTUAL colour of his mustache may be slightly...erm...darker then my Dad's but I think this one looks quite dashing)

My Dad is known for wearing Hawaiian shirts in the summer...(he and Ren have that in common) so despite the fact that I had never made a tiny monkey shirt, I decided now was the time. I had purchased this fabric from IKEA in Freiburg, Germany and felt that this was the time to break it out.

The lobster on the back is a little nod to Ren and his maritime-y goodness.

While I am happy how this shirt turned out, I am not sure that I will give up my day job and become a men's tailor.

I think that he looks a little like Tom Selleck.

This Christmas I got socks. Now, I am sure most people wouldn't be that excited for socks...but not everyone makes sock monkeys in their spare time.
I got several socks for Christmas.
No, wait....I got a PLETHORA of socks for Christmas....a gaggle, a murder, a pod, whatever over 50 pairs of socks are called.

Hmm....my sock friends have similar writing to my Dad.

Apparently, my "sock friends" were in California on Grey Saturday(or whatever one would call the day after Black Friday is) and hung out at Target and the 99 cent store. They then filled their suitcase with over 50 pairs of socks, stuffed them in a giant red sack and put them under the tree.

Can't wait to see all the monkeys and octopi and meece and dinosaurs that come out of these.

I have never made Sock Mice before, and I must admit that when I was commissioned to make not one but two AND have them in clothes...I was a little nervous. Now I kinda dig 'em and am fairly confident that they will become regulars in the sock circuit.

My dad and mum were nice enough to pick up some more flat rocks for me when they were in Newfoundland. These are the perfect rocks to make necklaces and keychains. These are always in limited supply and I can never tell people when I will have them in stock...but right now...I have some....for a short time....!

My dad solved an issue by hooking me up with some small wood pieces that make for lighter necklaces and keychains for those who prefer it.

Yesterday I had the Churchill Alternative craft show. It was the 3rd time that I have attended it, and it really is one of my favourite ones of the Holiday season. Why? Because the kids are SO involved in it. They even have their own section of the gym where they get to sell what THEY have made. They are also scattered through out the halls, selling backed goods as well as goods for charity. THey are quick to help with anything you might need and save up their money to do their own holiday shopping. It is at a point now where most of them know me, either through Scouts or the fact that I have attended for a few years.
One girl showed up carrying a monkey she had purchased from last year, to show me that she had made clothes for him...and promptly purchased and elephant for herself so the monkey could have a friend. She then became disappointed as she realized that she had drawn a picture of the sock monkey for me, but had forgotten it at home. (aw)
This year, I of course hobbled in on my cane (stooped knee) and had about 5 girls swarm me, offering to help me set up...which they did, They chose which monkeys were to be set out, and purposely hid the ones they wanted to buy at the bottom of my bag.
They then snatched up most of my "starmen". The ones that didn't sell, they went and grabbed their friends and prompted THEM to buy them...so all the stamen could remain friends. 20 minutes into the show...alll these little guys where gone!

As most of you know (or didn't...but now will...) I had surgery at the end of October to fix my knee replacement that I had done in December. It is actually my fourth knee replacement in my life and the third one with the same surgeon.
I am not going to lie...I have a crush on the man who will do anything in his power to make sure I can walk normally again...who wouldn't?
In honour of him (and I assure you, not in a creepy way) I made Dr. Charles in monkey form....

I did a craft show last weekend and it went AMAZING. The only complaint I have (and it really isn't a complaint) is I ran out of alllllll my painted Christmas decorations, This means more painting.
Yesterday I felt well enough from after my surgery to give some painting a try.

This will definitely be a much longer process then, say, a couple weeks ago....

That being said...yes, there will be one more round of painted monsters! (besides...someone on this blog will win one right? And these monsters will be special...they are painted using the power or Morphine!!!)

(Monsters have 3 eyes right?)

Craftster Swap

I did an awesome craft swap on Craftster last month with the theme being Monsters. Naturally I had to jump at the chance to make such a thing, but this time I tried to branch off from my comfort zone a little to make sure I was challenged.

First up we have one of my painted monsters...(but that was a given)

I have a few blank stacking dolls that I ordered on Etsy waiting to have something done to them...I try and save them for special people because they are a little $$$. My partner and I chatted every day and we got on really well (plus she has good taste in music...something that is VERY important ) so I felt she deserved one...I admit that I kinda wanna make another though....hehe

She loved tentically monsters and I love playing with the shrink sinks so I played around and came up with this...I may have also made myself one too..heh

But because I have surgery coming up I needed to get a jump on the Christmas rush that is coming up I decided to sew as many monkeys as I could before they came in. This way, all I would have to essentially add the face to this little dudes.

The Christmas season is the busiest time for me. I typically have a craft show every weekend...and this year is no different. (though I do have one space open in October...but think - and hope - that I will need to play catch-up)

Every year I have new decorations to add to my collection. I will still have hand-painted ones, but this year I also have hand designed dolls (and gnomes, but you will see those later)

Basically, I drew up the design, had them printed at Spoonflower and then I sew them.

Voila!

Hand designed, but able to mass produce.

I know I have been away from this blog for a little while but I have been rather busy with another project that I have been working on. (No, I don't just sew in my free time...)

I am a Scout leader and we just spent 2 weeks in Germany on an exchange. It was amazing...but that isn't the point of this post.

While there I managed to get my hand on a permanent marker..this of course means that I must doodle....on people. Faces, hands, legs and arms...really anything that was around that didn't include paper.

One such doodle went like this on one of the German Scout leaders arms...(he was chilly...he isn't actually bumpy in real life)

The next day he came up to me and asked if I would draw it on a piece of paper so that he could make it into a decal to put on the back of his car. Because it was Mani, I could not possibly say no...plus I made him promise that he would make me one.

The end result was a simplified version of the drawing that looks like this:

I LOVE IT! It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It truly was one of the most flattering things that anyone has ever done for me. When he took me over to show me at the final party I admit that I got a little choked up. Okay, more then a little.

Studio Tour.

I think that I have been cleaning my studio for about 6 weeks now. When I am in full swing you can generally not even see the floor of my work space...but I finally had enough...so I cleaned it...reaaaaalllly slowwwwwwly.....

And so here is where the magic happens...where all those monsters and monkeys get borned!
